''RECEIVING THE KIDNEY GAVE ME MIXED FEELINGS. I WAS HAPPY GETTING A NEW CHANCE AT LIFE, BUT ALSO SAD BECAUSE SOMEONE HAD DIED.''
I was initially a donor with the exception of the kidneys.
Ultimately, I received a kidney myself. Kidney disease runs in our family, which ultimately meant that some of us needed a donor kidney, including me. Together with my father I received a kidney from a deceased donor. The other family members of a living donor.
Receiving the kidney gave me mixed feelings. I was happy getting a new chance at life, but also sad because someone had died.
I like it that people think about organ donation and then decide whether or not to do it. Those who receive an organ are happy and have a whole new life.
